One of the more interesting aspects of the event is that the organizers of the three events (the others being the two-day Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival and the two-day Roots N Blues Festival) have been led by women. Despite the recent calamities, the ladies have managed to maintain their integrity, and the resulting event remains an important part of the local economy.

This year’s bash, which is slated for August 26 through 28 in the heart of the city, will feature an all-ages salute to the local arts and culture. Featuring a lineup of renowned artists and up-and-comers, the festivities are set to be the best in the area. While this year’s edition of the blues & brews may be a tad on the pricier side, it’s still worth a visit if only for the camaraderie. Besides the music, the fest will also play host to the Columbia symphony, an all-ages dance group aptly dubbed the symphony, and an assortment of other entertainment options.
Bring a lawn chair

This festival is located in Stephens Lake Park, which is a large grassy area with a casual picnic feel. You can bring a blanket or your own lawn chair and sit back and enjoy some of the best blues musicians in the country.
The event will be held on February 10th and will feature local BBQ connoisseurs and hot blues musicians. Food will be sold by multiple vendors and there will be a wine and beer garden. Tickets are free and will be available for purchase at the gate.
Although the event is free to attend, attendees will need to be prepared with cash to purchase food and drinks from various vendors. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. A limited number of VIP tickets are also available.
Organizers are testing different time slots. If you do not have a VIP ticket, you should arrive early for the best seating. There are several food trucks on site, so you will have plenty of options.
In addition to music, the event will feature a kid’s village with crafts, a bar-b-que competition, and workshops. Several barbecue restaurants will be at the festival, including Griffin’s BBQ.
The 21st annual Blues and Roots Festival will feature live music from local and national blues artists. Tickets are available for purchase at the gate or through First Option Bank. Guests will also have the option of purchasing a 2 day pass for $30.
Organizers have planned for over 200 musicians to play at the festival. There will be four international headliners. One of these is Danny ‘Mudcat’ Dudeck, a blues artist from Atlanta. He will add a Mudcat edge to his music and continue the traditions of blues pioneers.
