A few weeks ago, the Roots N Blues staff took a Festival research trip to Atlanta, GA, where we spent the weekend exploring the Shaky Knees Festival. Shaky Knees is held in Centennial Olympic Park, right in the heart of downtown Atlanta. The Festival featured amazing artists like Ryan Adams, J. Roddy Walston & The Business, Shovels & Rope, The Revivalists, Anderson East and tons of other talented musicians. We also got to see lesser known bands like Family & Friends and The Fruit Bats, both of these which put on such fun shows.
Among the mass of talented musicians at Shakey Knees, we were lucky to see both past and future RNB artists. Shovels & Rope, who performed at the 2016 Roots N Blues, was an incredibly unique experience then and were again at Shakey Knees. Getting to see Ryan Adams was like a pre-performance for RNB, and just added to our level of excitement about him joining us in Columbia in just a few months.
Family and Friends became one of our new favorites after we saw them in Atlanta. Even better, they will be performing in Columbia at Rose Music Hall on June 18th! We promise, you won’t want to miss this show!
One of the best things about getting to attend Shaky Knees was getting to test out their RFID system — that whole cashless thing. It made entrance and paying for everything so easy. Lines were short, and we all managed to make it through the weekend without losing our credit cards or cash. It definitely came in handy: they had great merchandise and some really awesome food vendors. Especially the mac and cheese truck. And the french fry guy.
We got to explore a new city, see how other festivals do things, and learned about other awesome bands that we would love to see at Roots N Blues one day.
