Festival in 3…2…1…

-Lucy Shanker, Roots N Blues Intern

The day we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! It’s festival day, y’all!! It seems surreal — after being hired in late December, the festival seemed like such a distant date. We’ve blogged, promoted, flyered, and now all our hard work is about to pay off for one incredible weekend.

Today is jam packed — hurry over at 5 p.m. for Paul Webber & the Scrappers or Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys. Better yet, split your time at both! You’re not going to want to miss a single act this weekend. And the day doesn’t slow down from there. Following them, we’ve got The Suffers, the Old 97s, Lee Fields & the Expressions, Booker T’s Stax Revue, and of course, Gary Clark Jr.

If I could give you one piece of advice for this weekend, it’s see as many acts as you can. Even if you’ve never heard of a band, go to the show. There are some incredible acts this weekend that you definitely don’t want to let fly under your radar! Go see local bands, go see the King of the Roots winner, go see everyone and anyone you can. Each act has been thoughtfully hand-picked and then played on shuffle throughout our office since March. We love them, and we know you will too.

Have a lively, enjoyment and unforgettable weekend. Drink water, eat delicious barbecue, hang out with good friends, make new friends and listen to amazing music. We’ll see you tonight.
