Roy C

Roy C. Hammond, aka Roy C, is a legendary soul singer with talents that far exceed the moderate attention he's gotten since his start back in 1958. He began singing tenor with The Genies, a group of guys that sang together every weekend on the boardwalk out in Long Beach, and scored a hit with “Who's That Knocking” (#72 pop). After returning from the Air Force, Roy C had a huge hit with “Shotgun Wedding” (#14 R & B) and released his first album in 1966, “That Shotgun Wedding Man”.

In 1973, Roy tasted some more commercial success when his mercury album “Sex & Soul” charted at #56 (R & B) and the follow up “Something Nice” spawned three minor hit singles. Roy C has been on labels including Smash, Black Hawk, Shout, Alaga, Mercury, Nation-wide and 3 Gems, and he launched his own publishing company, Johnson-Hammond.

His natural musical abilities and business savvy have enabled Roy to enjoy success as an artist, songwriter, publisher, arranger, producer, and label owner since the early 1970s, creating a faithful Southern following and deep respect from the genre. Roy C is an authentic soul man in an era that has too few.
