Carolina Chocolate Drops

The Carolina Chocolate drops are an African-American stringband that came together to play the rich tradition of fiddle and banjo music in Carolina’s Piedmont. Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Roberts both hail from the green hills of the North Carolina Piedmont while Dom Flemons is native to sunny Arizona. While this band boasts diverse musical backgrounds, they draw their musical heritage from the foothills of North and South Carolina and are influenced by Joe and Odell Thompson, Etta Baker, Roan Mountain Hilltoppers, Mississippi Shieks, Tennessee Chocolate Drops, and Ma Rainey.
